The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to intensify its crackdown on fraud and economic crimes undermining the aviation sector.

The appeal was made on Tuesday when NCAA Director General, Captain Chris Najomo, led his management team on a courtesy visit to EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Najomo expressed concern over fraudulent practices weakening NCAA’s safety oversight and operational transparency.

He highlighted risks in aircraft purchases, leasing arrangements, foreign maintenance contracts, and procurement of safety infrastructure.

He decried non-remittance of industry revenues, alleged under-reporting of earnings, ticketing manipulations, and illegal charter operations disguised as private flights, warning that such acts cripple the agency’s regulatory capacity.

To combat the menace, Najomo proposed a partnership with EFCC on joint investigations, intelligence sharing, staff training, and sensitisation workshops to strengthen compliance across the sector.

Responding, Olukoyede welcomed the collaboration, revealing plans to finalise a Memorandum of Understanding covering intelligence exchange, joint probes, and compliance monitoring.

“Aviation is an area where we have seen money laundering, particularly through chartered services,” Olukoyede noted. “With the kind of work you do, when people see us beside you, they will take you seriously.”

Details of the meeting were later shared on EFCC’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
