Tragedy struck on Tuesday when a driver, identified as Mr. Isaac Uguwu Anayo, was discovered dead inside his Volkswagen pickup van near a police checkpoint in Abaji, along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle had been parked by the roadside for a while, drawing the attention of police officers on duty. When they approached to investigate, they found the driver motionless, with foam coming from his mouth.
The officers quickly contacted officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who evacuated the victim to Abaji General Hospital.
However, doctors confirmed him dead on arrival, and his remains were deposited at the hospital morgue.
A phone retrieved from the vehicle enabled authorities to reach out to the deceased’s family.
The Abaji Police Division confirmed the incident and said investigations were underway to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
While no signs of foul play were immediately detected, police added that an autopsy may be conducted to determine the exact cause.
