Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, retired Maj.-Gen. Sohail Khan, has restated his country’s commitment to global peace and stronger bilateral ties with Nigeria.

Speaking at a reception in Abuja to mark Pakistan’s National and Defence Day, Khan described Pakistan as a “reliable partner in counter-terrorism” and a voice for justice in regions like Kashmir and Palestine.

He noted Pakistan’s contributions to UN peacekeeping, with over 200,000 troops deployed since 1960.

The envoy highlighted Pakistan’s strengths in agriculture and industry, citing its leading production of cotton, rice, wheat, sugarcane, mangoes, and sports goods.

He also pointed to its natural endowments, including K2, the world’s second-highest peak.

Khan paid tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces, ranked 12th globally in the 2025 Global Firepower Index, stressing their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

On relations with Nigeria, he described the partnership as one built on “brotherhood, trust, and strategic cooperation,” noting growing trade and deeper defence collaboration.

“As we commemorate our Independence and Defence Day, let us renew our commitment to peace and prosperity. Together, we are unbreakable,” Khan said.
