Media personality and former reality TV star Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has advised Nigerians to reconsider the trend of emigrating in search of better opportunities abroad, warning that life outside the country is not always as promising as it seems.
Speaking on the Outside the Box podcast on Sunday, Tacha encouraged citizens to stay and contribute to building a better Nigeria, rather than abandoning what they’ve built in search of “greener pastures.”
“If you have a working business, a job, a car, and a house, it doesn’t make sense to sell everything and move abroad,” she said. “Even when you get there, you still have to work hard to get to where you want to be.”
Tacha emphasized that while countries like the UK offer better infrastructure, Nigeria also has value and potential. “The UK is great… but Nigeria is great as well,” she noted, recalling her observations while living in London.
She further cautioned that life overseas can be isolating, with limited social connections and a high cost of living. “You get lonelier. There are fewer friends. It’s busy,” she said, expressing her deep affection for Lagos and Nigeria in general.
Tacha argued that many people underestimate the emotional and financial challenges of relocating, and said that if Nigeria can improve certain systems and infrastructure, more people would choose to stay.
Reaffirming her belief in national potential, she concluded: “Stay in Nigeria to check this country or to affect the change we want to see.”
