At least 30 people were injured and one person killed in two separate crashes along the Abuja-Lokoja highway, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has confirmed.

The first accident occurred at about 5:47 a.m. near Awawa village and involved an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus with registration number DKP 43 LG.

The bus, which was conveying 18 passengers returning to Edo State after attending a Holiness Revival Worldwide event in Kwali, rammed into a heap of sand by the roadside.

Eyewitnesses said the driver, unaware of the obstruction, lost control, leaving all 18 occupants injured. FRSC officials, who arrived swiftly at the scene, evacuated the victims to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In a separate incident, a Golf car with registration number ASH 34 AA collided head-on with a Vento car (RBC 925 CN) that was driving against traffic from the Lokoja end as a result of ongoing road repairs. The crash left 12 people injured.

Officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), reportedly rescued the victims and conveyed them to the hospital before FRSC personnel arrived.

The Abuja-Lokoja highway, one of the country’s busiest transport corridors, remains notorious for frequent accidents often blamed on reckless driving, poor road maintenance, and ongoing construction works.
