The Federal High Court in Lagos has convicted three men for unlawfully dealing in 160 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa in two separate cases filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
In the first case, Justice Dehinde Dipeolu sentenced 25-year-old university graduate, Faruk Mumuni, to two years in prison or a fine of ₦5 million for trafficking 149 kilogrammes of cannabis.
He was arrested on August 13, 2025, in Mushin, Lagos. Mumuni pleaded guilty to two counts under Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act.
His counsel, E.U. Okenyi, pleaded for leniency, citing his remorse and first-offender status.
The court ordered that the sentence take effect from the date of his arrest.
In the second case, Justice Dipeolu convicted Abubakar Sadiq, 25, and Isah Ibrahim, 27, for trafficking 11 kilogrammes of cannabis on July 3, 2025, at Alabarago, Lagos. Both pleaded guilty to an amended two-count charge.
Each man was sentenced to six months in prison or a ₦500,000 fine on the first count.
Sadiq received an additional six-month term or a ₦600,000 fine on the second count.
Their lawyer, Evans Ajoku, appealed for mercy, stressing their remorse and early guilty pleas.
All charges were brought under Sections 11(c) and 14(b) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
