Leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), have engaged the management of Dangote Group over recurring accidents involving trucks linked to the company in student communities across the country.

The meeting, held at the Dangote Refinery Administrative Block in Lagos, brought together Dangote Industries Limited Vice President, Mr. D.V.G Edwin, Director of Insurance, Mr. Obashola Alo, and other senior officials, alongside representatives of the student unions.

NAPS President, Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan, voiced concern about the frequency of accidents involving Dangote trucks, noting that several students had been injured while their families suffered distress.

He called for urgent interventions, compensation for victims, and stronger safety protocols to safeguard students nationwide.

Similarly, NANS President, Comrade Olushola L. Oladoja, condemned what he described as avoidable tragedies, insisting on stricter operational standards and robust enforcement of safety regulations across the company’s logistics operations.

Responding, Mr. Alo assured that the company was already addressing some of the cases, including airlifting a victim to Lagos for treatment.

He explained that certain incidents were only recently reported to the company but stressed that no affected individual would be abandoned.

Mr. Edwin reaffirmed Dangote Group’s commitment to corporate responsibility and safety, disclosing that all company drivers were undergoing mandatory recertification.

He also announced the introduction of surveillance systems to track compliance and further reforms aimed at raising operational standards.

He clarified, however, that some trucks branded with the Dangote logo were owned and operated by independent partners.

He urged the public to always take note of plate numbers and relevant details whenever accidents occur to aid accountability.

At the close of the meeting, both parties agreed on sustained collaboration.

Dangote Group pledged closer partnership with the student community to ensure justice for victims and enhanced road safety, while the student leaders vowed to continue monitoring developments until tangible results are achieved.
