The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has sealed off an illegal cosmetic factory, Shine Shine Skincare, in Agege, Lagos State, for producing unregistered and hazardous bleaching products under unsafe conditions.

During the enforcement raid, officials uncovered a wide range of items falsely marketed as “organic” and safe, but manufactured in clear violation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

The company, operated by Devine Nikiruka Adebayo, had built a strong social media presence with more than 100,000 Instagram followers and was producing unapproved products such as Peeling White Scrub, Glass Scrub Wash, Anti-Aging Radiant Glow, and Customised Whitening Black Soap.

In a statement released on its official X handle on Sunday, NAFDAC revealed that laboratory analysis showed the products contained dangerous levels of banned substances.

“Investigations revealed that such deceptively formulated products often contain unsafe levels of corticosteroid-based bleaching agents, which can cause severe health risks such as skin thinning, delayed healing, and increased vulnerability to injury,” the agency said.

NAFDAC advised Nigerians to exercise caution when purchasing cosmetic and regulated products, warning that many so-called organic or whitening creams circulating online are unregistered and unsafe.
