At least seven people were killed and several others injured when suspected Fulani gunmen invaded Ungwa Rimi village, an outstation of St. Monica’s Parish in Ikulu Pari, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, in the early hours of Monday, August 25, 2025.

According to the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Mark Bissan, six of the victims were members of the Catholic Church, while one was a non-Catholic.

Those critically injured were rushed to the General Hospital in Kafanchan, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Zango Kataf General Hospital mortuary.

Funeral arrangements have been scheduled for Saturday, August 30.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed a village shop, firing shots at the door.

Although the bullets did not penetrate, sparing those inside, several women and children outside were hit.

Among the dead were four women, one man, and two children.

Community youth leader, Mr. Sunday Aboh, linked the incident to recurring clashes along the Kaduna-Plateau border.

He revealed that two Fulani men had visited the village the previous evening, allegedly acting as spies before the attack.

“They tried to force their way into the shop but couldn’t. Then gunfire followed, and sadly seven people were killed.

“I referred five of the injured to Barau Dikko Hospital while still managing three in my clinic,” Aboh said.

He called on government authorities to establish a mini military barrack or mobile police unit in the community to curb further attacks.

The assault has heightened tensions in Kauru LGA, with residents accusing the government of silence in the face of recurring killings.

The attack is the latest in a wave of violent incidents across Kaduna State, particularly in areas where farmer and herder communities intersect, deepening fears of insecurity in the region.
