The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC), for declaring its 2027 presidential ticket open, despite an earlier endorsement of President Bola Tinubu.
CUPP’s National Secretary, Peter Ameh, described the move as a “false contest” designed to deceive Nigerians and exploit unsuspecting aspirants.
He argued that asking others to buy nomination forms was a ploy to make them waste resources on a race already decided.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP), echoed the criticism, accusing the APC of imposition and godfatherism.
Its National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Aiyenigba, said the ruling party was suffocating internal democracy.
Similarly, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Executive Committee, Timothy Osadolor, condemned the APC’s stance as “the height of deceit,” claiming it was meant to discourage genuine competition.
The APC’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, had earlier said the party would not “close our doors” to other aspirants, but opposition leaders dismissed the assurance as hollow.
