The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), is leading a major initiative to establish a comprehensive cybersecurity framework aimed at safeguarding the nation’s digital infrastructure from rising online threats.
The project, scheduled for full implementation in 2026, is designed to protect Nigeria’s expanding digital economy and improve online safety for citizens.
Speaking at a stakeholder meeting in Abuja, the NCC’s Executive Commissioner for Technical Services, Abraham Oshadami, underscored the urgency of the initiative.
He noted that cyberattacks are no longer limited to data breaches but now threaten human safety, with both state and non-state actors increasingly targeting critical sectors.
Highlighting the telecom sector as a prime target, Dr. Kazeem Durodoye of CyberNover, the project’s consultant presented the draft framework, stressing that its success depends on strong collaboration between government and private industry.
NCC’s Head of Cybersecurity, Babagana Digima, disclosed that the project is supported by the World Bank and is on track for completion by the third quarter of 2025.
With this initiative, Nigeria is positioning itself for a safer and more resilient digital future.
