Security operatives, comprising the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS), have killed at least 50 bandits in Kumbashi, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.

The clash occurred on Tuesday when about 300 armed bandits attempted to invade the village and attack a DSS asset camp.

According to the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, security forces engaged the assailants in a fierce gun battle, repelling the attack and leaving scores dead while others fled with gunshot wounds.

Eyewitnesses said the retreating bandits evacuated the remains of their colleagues, dismembered and packed into sacks, on motorcycles.

Sarkin-Daji hailed the operation as evidence of superior intelligence and firepower, urging residents to provide timely information to aid security operations.

He further assured that the State Assembly would continue to back security interventions with the necessary legislative support.

In a separate development, operatives in Oyo State arrested one Oladejo Adedeji David in Ibadan for allegedly defrauding victims of ₦146,200 through fake websites, including NINcard.com and Quickverify.

He reportedly confessed to running the fraudulent NIN services with his sister, Oladejo Adeyinka, who is currently at large.
