The National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, has endorsed the Renewed Hope Development Plan (2026-2030), designed to place Nigeria on track for a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

Shettima said the plan builds on reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and will ensure policy continuity while aligning with Nigeria Agenda 2050.

Unlike previous models, he noted, it will be participatory, involving states, local governments, the private sector, and civil society.

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, said the plan will be launched in December 2025, adding that reforms such as subsidy removal and forex liberalisation are already yielding results.

He stressed that the framework will consolidate reforms and address emerging socio-economic challenges.

The Council also reviewed public health concerns, particularly the spread of a type 2 polio variant (cVPV2), in the North West.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe disclosed that intensified vaccination had reduced cases, though Sokoto remains the epicenter.

NEC approved vaccination rounds for September 11-14 in 11 high-risk states, to be followed by a nationwide campaign in October targeting children aged 0-14 years.
