The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA), has relocated families displaced by flooding in Garin Kolo, offering 32 temporary shelters, medical care, and essential supplies to safeguard their wellbeing.
In a statement on Thursday, the agency disclosed that 10 emergency latrines were constructed, while displaced households received mats, mosquito nets, blankets, and buckets.
Medical teams treated 35 patients; 22 have been discharged, three pregnant women remain under care, and an elderly patient is receiving special attention.
To address water needs, a reservoir has been installed, with borehole drilling set to begin soon. A temporary security post and clinic desk have also been established at the relocation site.
The Emir of Tikau, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn-Grema, visited the camp to sympathise with victims.
YOSEMA also convened an emergency meeting with humanitarian partners, with several organisations pledging support to complement government efforts.
Governor Mai Mala Buni assured residents that “no one will be left behind in these trying moments,” while commending the resilience of the Garin Kolo community.
YOSEMA further urged residents in flood-prone areas to heed early warnings and relocate promptly, stressing that the intervention reflects the value of solidarity and collaboration during crises.
