The Rivers State Police Command has recovered eight explosives and arrested 33 suspects linked to cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, and human trafficking.
Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju disclosed this in Port Harcourt on Thursday during a joint security briefing with the Army, Navy, Air Force, Civil Defence, and DSS.
He said the arrests followed a seven-month crackdown on crime across the state.
Among the suspects are seven cultists accused of murdering Port Harcourt lawyer Bright Owhor and withdrawing funds from his bank account. Others were arrested for pipeline vandalism in Khana LGA.
Items recovered include three GXI dynamites, 21 AK-47 rifles, 66 locally made guns, eight revolvers, 34 pump-action guns, two Scorpion sub-machine guns, 115 vehicles, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and other assorted weapons.
Adepoju praised the collaboration among security agencies and urged residents to support efforts by providing credible information, assuring that security would be tightened ahead of local government elections.
