The Osun State Government says it will obtain the Certified True Copy (CTC), of the U.S. court judgment that sentenced the Apetumodu of Ipetumodu, Oba Joseph Oloyede, to prison over a multimillion-dollar COVID-19 relief fund fraud.
Oba Oloyede, 62, a dual Nigerian-American citizen, was sentenced to 56 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $4,408,543.38 in restitution.
He also forfeited his Medina, Ohio, residence and an additional $96,006.89 linked to fraudulent transactions.
The monarch was convicted of conspiring to exploit COVID-19 emergency loan programmes for small businesses.
Osun Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Dosu Babatunde, said the state would rely on official court documents, not social media reports, before deciding on next steps.
In Ipetumodu, calm prevailed, with local chiefs meeting privately to discuss the matter.
