The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has successfully rescued all 618 passengers aboard a Kaduna-bound train that derailed on Tuesday along the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor.

According to NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale, the derailment occurred at Kilometre 49, between Kubwa and Asham stations.

The Corps promptly deployed a tactical team to the scene following a distress call, in line with its mandate to respond to disasters and protect national assets.

The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Audi, personally led the response team on-site, conducting an assessment alongside key stakeholders from the security and transport sectors.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding critical national infrastructure and ensuring passenger safety during emergencies.

Prof. Audi called for stronger preventive measures along the rail corridor to avert future incidents, stressing the importance of protecting both passengers and infrastructure.

He also warned that the NSCDC would take action against anyone found sabotaging railway installations.

In a display of inter-agency cooperation, Audi commended the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), for its prompt response, praising Managing Director Dr. Kayode Opeifa for his leadership during the emergency.

The NSCDC reiterated its readiness to continue supporting disaster management and securing public infrastructure across the country.
