Tensions between herders and church members in Paso, Gwagwalada Area Council, FCT, were narrowly avoided on Sunday following the swift intervention of the village chief.
The dispute arose when herders, heading to a local pond for their cattle, encountered a barricade allegedly erected by church members.
An aide to the village chief, Danjuma Yakubu, said the herders attempted to remove the obstruction but were stopped, escalating tensions.
“The village chief was called. He instructed me to visit the scene and directed both parties to his palace, where the matter was amicably resolved,” Yakubu said.
He added that security operatives were informed and later visited the area.
Ahmed Dahiru, spokesperson for FCT Miyetti Allah, confirmed the incident, noting that the barricade blocked a common route used by both residents and herders.
“The chief has directed that the barricade be removed today or tomorrow to prevent any crisis,” he said.
Police sources in Gwagwalada confirmed their visit to the scene and assured that enforcement of the chief’s directive would restore peace in the community.
