A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), loyal to Nafiu Bala has cautioned former Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi against parading himself as the party’s spokesperson, describing his actions as misleading and unauthorised.
In a statement signed by Dr. Christopher O. Okechukwu, Director of Media and Public Affairs in Bala’s camp, the group insisted that Abdullahi’s claim violates the party’s protocols and undermines its leadership.
It also urged the media not to accord him recognition as an official spokesperson.
“The ADC finds it imperative to address a matter of significant concern regarding the representation of our party,” the statement read. “Malam Bolaji Abdullahi has been presenting himself as Publicity Secretary and Spokesperson of the ADC. This is not only misleading but also a violation of party protocol.”
The group outlined conditions for occupying the position of spokesperson, including active membership, nomination endorsements from at least three states (including the FCT), and election at a national convention.
“Based on these criteria,” the statement continued, “Abdullahi is not qualified to serve in that role. We urge him to stop using the party’s name and title without authorisation.”
Okechukwu further advised journalists to verify facts before publication, warning that misrepresenting Abdullahi as the party’s spokesman could mislead the public.
The warning comes amid renewed tensions within the ADC, following Nafiu Bala’s resumption at the party’s headquarters on Wednesday, claiming leadership, a move Abdullahi dismissed, branding Bala a “charlatan.”
The faction concluded by reaffirming its commitment to democracy, transparency, and good governance.
