A man is currently on the run after he allegedly defiled a 9-year-old girl in Dagiri community, Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.
The incident occurred on Thursday around 8pm when the victim was sent by her mother to buy mosquito coils from a nearby shop.
According to a resident, Suleiman Alhassan, the suspect lured the girl with a biscuit into an uncompleted building. Her cries were heard by a woman passing by.
“It was a woman passing through the backyard of the uncompleted building who saw the girl crying after she flashed a torchlight because the place was dark,” Alhassan said. “She discovered what happened to the girl, and the man jumped through the fence and escaped.”
A neighbour who recognised the girl then led her home. Her mother discovered a bloodstain and alerted a local vigilante, who took the child to the hospital.
A doctor confirmed she had been forcefully penetrated.
A vigilante member, who spoke anonymously, confirmed the report.
“The girl’s mother is my neighbour… doctors confirmed that the girl was actually defiled,” he said. “We are still trying to see if we can trace and get him arrested.”
Police sources have confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
