Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has paid glowing tribute to the state’s founding fathers and past leaders, commending their vision and sacrifices that laid the foundation for Edo’s growth over the past 34 years.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary on Wednesday, the governor also lauded the resilience of Edo people at home and in the diaspora, describing their spirit as “unique and irreplaceable.”
“As Edo State marks its 34th anniversary, I congratulate our people for their resilience and contributions to our progress.
“This is not just a celebration of a date, but a moment to reflect on our journey, acknowledge our achievements, and recommit to building a prosperous Edo State,” he said.
Okpebholo highlighted notable strides in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development, while admitting that challenges remain.
He stressed that the legacy of the ancient Benin Kingdom in art, culture, and governance has been a firm foundation on which the state continues to build.
The governor called for greater unity across political and ethnic divides, noting that collective effort is essential to achieving the “Edo of our dreams.”
“The task of building our state is a shared responsibility. I call on every Edo son and daughter to join hands with my administration in transforming our state. Let us set aside our differences and focus on what unites us,” he urged.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to job creation, improved security, and sustainable development, Okpebholo pledged transparency and accountability in governance.
“As we celebrate this anniversary, let us renew our hope and commitment to a brighter future.
“With God on our side and our collective effort, Edo State will reach even greater heights,” he said.
