The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has urged prospective recruits to prioritize physical and mental fitness as they await the release of the recruitment shortlist.

In a notice posted Tuesday on X, the Service stressed that firefighting demands strength and endurance, advising candidates to exercise regularly, eat well, and rest adequately.

“Hunger is not part of the training syllabus. We need fit firefighters, not fainting champions. Your potbelly won’t fit inside bunker gear,” the statement read, warning that the unfit cannot cope with the rigors of the job.

Although no date has been set for the shortlist, the advisory is seen as a move to prepare candidates for the physical challenges ahead.
