The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has faulted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the All Progressives Congress (APC), for focusing on zoning their 2027 presidential tickets while Nigerians grapple with severe economic and social challenges.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday, ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi said it was insensitive for the two dominant parties to prioritize political calculations two years before the election.

“Why are we so preoccupied and behaving in such a way that Nigerians begin to look at the political elite across the divides as if we don’t care about them?” Abdullahi asked.

His remarks followed reports that the PDP had zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South while retaining its national chairmanship in the North. Similarly, in May, 22 APC governors and party leaders endorsed President Bola Tinubu as the ruling party’s sole candidate, citing Nigeria’s unwritten power rotation principle.

Abdullahi dismissed the zoning debates as “political gamesmanship,” arguing that both parties were more interested in positioning than in addressing pressing national concerns.

He stressed that the ADC was under no pressure from these developments and remained focused on building nationwide support.

According to him, the party has not discussed zoning and will only do so when the time is right.

“What is most important to us is to convince Nigerians that we represent that alternative that can bring respite to their current sufferings,” he said.

Abdullahi also debunked speculation that the ADC was backing any sole candidate, insisting that all aspirants, including Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Atiku Abubakar would have equal opportunities within the coalition.
