The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governors’ Forum has defended its recent meeting in Zamfara State, accusing the African Democratic Congress (ADC), of exploiting insecurity for political gain.

In a statement on Monday, the Forum’s Director General, Emmanuel Agbo, said the PDP remains focused and united despite some defections to the ADC, stressing that the party has grown stronger and more determined.

The governors had converged in Gusau, the Zamfara capital, on Friday and Saturday, days after fresh attacks claimed lives in parts of the state.

Reacting, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, criticised the PDP meeting, urging President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Zamfara. He accused the PDP governors of insensitivity, saying, “Instead of rallying around their colleague to confront the killings, they staged a political gathering at the scene of mass murder, trampling on the memory of the victims.

The photos of PDP governors grinning in ceremonial robes are totally out of place in an atmosphere still reeking of blood and sorrow.”

The PDP Governors’ Forum dismissed the ADC’s position as an “irresponsible” attack, insisting it does not play politics with human lives.

“Unlike the ADC, politicising tragedies to score cheap points is not our stock in trade,” the Forum stated.
