Nigerian authorities have deported notorious Chinese gang leader Dai Qisheng, bringing an end to a global manhunt and marking a significant victory for international law enforcement.
Dai, who had been on China’s wanted list, fled the country in 2024 after a warrant was issued by the Zhijin County Public Security Bureau in Guizhou Province.
He was tracked to Abuja, where operatives of Nigeria’s National Central Bureau, working with Interpol Beijing and the Chinese Embassy, arrested him on August 8, 2025.
He was deported to China a week later, on August 15, under a police-to-police cooperation framework coordinated by Interpol.
Nigerian authorities credited the breakthrough to effective intelligence sharing and cross-border collaboration.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, described the deportation as “a landmark achievement in the fight against transnational organized crime.”
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, said the successful extradition sends a strong message that “Nigeria will not be a safe haven for fugitives.”
The operation highlights Nigeria’s growing role in international security cooperation and reaffirms its commitment to global justice.
