The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Aondona Dajoh, has resigned from office.

In a handwritten letter to the Clerk of the House, Dajoh wrote: “I write to resign my position as the Speaker of the Benue House of Assembly, effective today, August 24, 2025. This is done in good faith and in the best interest of the state.”

His resignation comes weeks after he narrowly escaped impeachment and suspended three lawmakers.

As of press time, Governor Hyacinth Alia and his allies were holding a closed-door meeting to select a new Speaker.

Meanwhile, soldiers from the 72 Special Battalion were deployed across Makurdi to prevent unrest, with troops stationed at the Tito railway bypass, Wurukum roundabout, and commissioner’s quarters.

The Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Terver Zamber, said he was still confirming details with his boss.
