President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians in the diaspora to contribute their expertise, resources, and influence toward the country’s development.
Speaking on Thursday at the Kahala Hotel and Resort in Yokohama, Japan, during an interactive session with the Nigerian community on the sidelines of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), Tinubu said national growth requires collective responsibility.
According to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the event brought together entrepreneurs and professionals from diverse fields.
The President highlighted reforms in passport issuance, economic stabilisation, and healthcare investment, assuring that his administration is committed to driving transformation.
“Some may choose to remain abroad, which is their right, but Nigeria needs you. If you don’t contribute, who will build it?” Tinubu asked, urging Nigerians abroad to remain true ambassadors of the nation.
He also warned against negative portrayals of Nigeria, saying such narratives damage the country’s image and discourage investment.
Government officials, including Minister of State for Industry Senator John Enoh and NASENI Executive Vice Chairman Khalil Suleiman Halilu, briefed the diaspora on ongoing programmes.
Members of the community expressed confidence in the reforms, with the President of the Nigerian Union in Japan, Emeka Ebogota, pledging their continued support.
