The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has directed all departments and directorates of the Federal Ministry of Justice to fully align with Nigeria’s ongoing digital reforms.
The directive, issued Thursday at a top management retreat in Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, follows the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 (FCSSIP25), the National Policy on Justice, and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
With the theme “Positioning for Digital Transformation,” the retreat underscored the urgency of adopting technology to improve access to justice and efficiency in service delivery.
“The justice sector is a catalyst for national development. We cannot continue to rely on manual processes in an era when citizens depend on technology for services,” Fagbemi said, citing overcrowded prisons, delayed trials, and limited access to justice as challenges requiring tech-driven solutions.
He urged ministry leaders to embrace proactive, data-driven, and innovative governance models.
Declaring the retreat open, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom hailed the reforms, noting they align with his administration’s ARISE Agenda.
He said the state has already embraced e-governance, including a Ministry of Science and Digital Economy and a digital case management system for civil and criminal trials.
In her remarks, Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Beatrice Jeddy-Agba, said the retreat was designed to strengthen institutional capacity in digital content management, case management, and the integration of artificial intelligence into legal workflows.
