Veteran Nollywood actor Fabian Adibe, famed for his unforgettable role in the NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s classic Things Fall Apart, has died at the age of 82.

Adibe, who marked his 82nd birthday in February 2025, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday.

The news was confirmed by Seun Oloketuyi, CEO of Best of Nollywood, who wrote on social media: “The actor from ‘Things Fall Apart,’ Fabian Adibe, has passed away. He died at 2:30 am this morning.”

His commanding yet gentle screen presence in Things Fall Apart earned him critical acclaim and endeared him to audiences across generations. For many, his performance became inseparably tied to Achebe’s masterpiece, cementing his place as one of Nigeria’s most respected actors.

Tributes have since poured in from fans, colleagues, and admirers, who described him as a “gentle soul” and a legend whose artistry shaped Nigerian cinema.

As the entertainment industry mourns, Adibe is remembered not only for his iconic role but also for his enduring contribution to the growth of film and television in Nigeria.

His legacy, colleagues say, will continue to inspire generations of actors to come.
