Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has been granted bail by Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), in the sum of GH¢10 million with two sureties.

He will remain in custody until the sureties provide verifiable properties that meet the conditions.

Shatta Wale is being investigated over a 2019 Lamborghini Urus suspected to be linked to proceeds of a $4 million fraud involving Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian currently serving an 86-month jail term in the United States.

The U.S. government has requested the vehicle’s repatriation as part of Amuah’s $4.7 million restitution.

According to EOCO, Shatta Wale could not identify the seller of the car, only claiming he bought it from the “street” through a man he vaguely recalled as “ZAK,” who allegedly contacted him via WhatsApp.

He failed to present any receipt or transfer documents, producing only a Customs declaration form in Amuah’s name.

He was interrogated for nearly four hours at EOCO headquarters on Wednesday. Earlier in June, EOCO, working with the U.S. FBI and Department of Justice, searched his Trassaco Valley residence in Accra, seizing the Lamborghini during what was described as a peaceful operation.

Shatta Wale reportedly asked to surrender the car himself to avoid public embarrassment, stressing its importance to his public image.

EOCO confirmed that he and a former senior officer of Ghana’s National Signal Bureau remain persons of interest in the ongoing investigation.
