The Police Service Commission (PSC), has approved the promotion of 952 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), to Deputy Superintendents (DSPs), while withholding the elevation of 179 others due to retirement or death.

PSC spokesman Ikechukwu Ani said on Wednesday that 176 officers had already retired, while three were deceased, noting that the decision was to protect the integrity of the promotion process.

Among those promoted are Maidawa Yakubu, Edwin Thomas, Grace Okon, Fidelis Offorbuike, Elvina Ochia Chukwu of FCID Ikoyi, Kyrian Igwe of Enugu Command, Rosemary Obianuju Egbo of Warri Command, and Deborah Danjuma of SPU Base 7, Abuja, among others.

PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, stressed that officers outside active service cannot be promoted, adding that the commission is committed to professionalism, discipline, and fairness.

“The commission will no longer tolerate diversionary or unauthorised actions by serving officers. Promotions will be based strictly on merit and eligibility,” Argungu said.

He confirmed that the decision had been communicated to the Inspector-General of Police for implementation.
