Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have been knocked out of the 2025 FIBA Men’s AfroBasket following a 91-75 defeat to Senegal in Wednesday’s quarter-final clash.
The Nigerians had advanced to the last eight with a perfect group-stage record, defeating defending champions Tunisia, Madagascar, and Cameroon.
After edging the first quarter 24-23, D’Tigers lost momentum as Senegal surged ahead with dominant second (39-18) and third (23-13) quarter performances. Nigeria took the fourth quarter 20-15, but the deficit proved too wide to close.
The exit prolongs D’Tigers’ wait for a second AfroBasket title, their only triumph coming in 2015.
The result stands in sharp contrast to the success of the women’s team, D’Tigress, who recently claimed a record fifth straight AfroBasket crown in Côte d’Ivoire.
