Senator Ned Nwoko has called on security agencies to prosecute individuals staging kidnappings, warning that the trend threatens public trust and security.

Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, made the appeal in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

He expressed concern over a recent incident in Aniocha North where a young man faked his abduction, sparking panic after a viral video showed him in a forest.

“I immediately mobilised the police and local vigilantes for rescue, only for investigations to reveal that the young man staged his kidnapping.

“This reckless and criminal act is alien to the values of our people in Delta North and must not be allowed to take root,” Nwoko said.

He stressed that staged kidnappings traumatise families, waste critical security resources, and trivialise the plight of genuine victims.

The senator urged law enforcement agencies to deal decisively with culprits to serve as deterrence.

“As senator representing Delta North, I remain committed to safeguarding our communities, supporting security agencies, and ensuring peace and trust prevail among our people,” he added.
