The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in collaboration with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), has deported 51 foreign nationals convicted of cybercrime and internet fraud.

According to an EFCC statement on Thursday, the deportees included 50 Chinese nationals and one Tunisian, bringing the total number of convicted foreign nationals repatriated since the exercise began on August 15, 2025, to 102.

The convicts were part of 192 foreign nationals arrested in a recent sting operation in Lagos targeting one of the largest foreign-led cybercrime syndicates operating in Nigeria.

The arrests followed actionable intelligence on the syndicate’s illicit activities.

“The successful conviction and repatriation of these individuals send a clear message: we will not tolerate the use of our nation’s digital space for illicit activities that undermine our economy and national security,” the EFCC stated.

The Commission emphasized that the ongoing exercise is part of its broader effort to protect Nigeria’s cyberspace and deter international criminal networks from operating in the country. More deportations are expected in the coming days as the exercise continues.
