A coalition of young female traders in the Federal Capital Territory has called on businessman and politician, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, to contest the 2027 presidential election following his return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Leader of the group, Murjanatu Idris, said Nigerian youths are tired of “recycled names and faces” in politics and see Olawepo-Hashim as a refreshing alternative.
“There can never be a better option than Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim. The youth of Nigeria are tired of the same old names and faces that have offered little progress.
“We need fresh energy, vision, and sincerity of purpose, and we see all these qualities in Gbenga,” she said.
Murjanatu recalled Olawepo-Hashim’s role as one of the youngest voices in the pro-democracy struggle alongside Jerry Gana, Sule Lamido, Abubakar Rimi, and Sunday Awoniyi.
She also commended his recent interview with The Punch, describing it as proof of his patriotism and vision.
“That interview set him apart as a leader who truly has the country’s interest at heart.
“His words resonated with us as young traders who feel the impact of Nigeria’s economic and political decisions daily in the marketplace,” she noted.
The traders announced that they will formally endorse Olawepo-Hashim in September 2025 as their preferred candidate for 2027.
“Our endorsement will be public and emphatic. We believe in his capacity to unify Nigeria, restore dignity to governance, and drive policies that will empower ordinary citizens, especially women and youth,” Murjanatu added.
Their call adds to the growing voices urging Olawepo-Hashim to step forward as a credible alternative in the next presidential election.
