Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has accused the club of breaking promises in the ongoing transfer drama surrounding his future.
The Sweden international, who scored 27 goals in 42 appearances last season and earned a spot in the Premier League PFA Team of the Season, has been training separately from the Newcastle squad while exploring other opportunities, including a reported bid from Liverpool.
In a social media post, Isak expressed his frustration and addressed the situation for the first time.
“I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors,” he wrote.
He added: “The reality is that promises were made, and the club has known my position for a long time.
“To act now as if these issues are only emerging is misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue.”
Concluding his statement, Isak said: “That’s where things are for me right now and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”
