A coalition of young female traders in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has appealed to businessman and politician Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim to contest the 2027 presidential election.

The group’s call comes shortly after Olawepo-Hashim’s return to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking on behalf of the association, Murjanatu Idris, an FCT native, said Nigerian youth are disillusioned with “recycled names” in politics and are eager for fresh, visionary leadership.

“We are tired of the same old names and faces that have offered little progress. We see fresh energy, vision, and sincerity of purpose in Gbenga,” Idris said.

She commended Olawepo-Hashim’s democratic credentials, recalling his contributions alongside Jerry Gana and Sunday Awoniyi in the struggle for Nigeria’s democracy.

Idris also praised his recent interview with The Punch, describing it as a reflection of his depth and patriotism.

The group announced plans to formally endorse Olawepo-Hashim in September 2025, stressing their confidence in his capacity to unite Nigerians and empower ordinary citizens, particularly women and youth.

Their appeal adds to mounting calls for Olawepo-Hashim to present himself as a credible alternative in the race for Nigeria’s highest office.
