The Borno State Police Command has recovered an unexploded ordnance (UXO), from a farmland in Dikwa Local Government Area, following a report by a local farmer.
Police spokesperson ASP Nahum Daso said in a statement on Monday that the discovery was made after a farmer, Babagana Kachalla, noticed a suspicious object and alerted authorities.
Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, promptly deployed the Commander of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Base 13 in Maiduguri and his team to the scene.
The UXO, identified as a Cluster Bomb Unit (CBU), measuring about 2.2 meters in length and 30 centimeters in width, was found partially buried.
The area was cordoned off in line with EOD-CBRN safety protocols before the bomb was neutralized.
The EOD team carried out an in-situ demolition and safely extracted the cluster munition components without incident.
The police also sensitized members of the Dikwa community on Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORA), to enhance public safety in case of similar discoveries.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious objects or activities to the nearest police station.
