Telecommunications giant MTN Group has appointed Karl Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria, as Vice President for Francophone Africa, effective November 1, 2024.
In his expanded role, Toriola will oversee operations in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, and Congo Brazzaville, while retaining his position as CEO of MTN Nigeria.
The appointment forms part of MTN’s ongoing “Ambition 2025” strategy, which focuses on strengthening its three key business platforms: Connectivity, Fintech, and Digital Infrastructure.
The Group said the restructuring is aimed at accelerating growth in high-potential markets and leveraging Toriola’s deep industry expertise.
Toriola, who has led MTN Nigeria since 2021, is credited with steering the company through significant network expansions, fintech growth, and regulatory engagements in Africa’s largest telecoms market.
As part of the wider reshuffle, Ferdi Moolman, former MTN Nigeria CEO, will return as CEO of MTN South Africa, replacing Charles Molapisi, who transitions back to his previous role as Group Chief Technology and Information Officer with a focus on advancing artificial intelligence integration across MTN operations.
The Group described the appointments as a strategic realignment to consolidate its leadership, strengthen execution, and deliver greater value for shareholders across Africa.
