Senate President Godswill Akpabio has returned to Nigeria after what he described as a brief vacation in London, dispelling rumours about his health.

His return comes after weeks of speculation that he was critically ill and undergoing treatment abroad.

Akpabio had attended the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva from July 29 to 31 before proceeding to London.

His absence sparked reports suggesting he was battling a serious health condition.

In a statement on Monday, his media aide, Jackson Udom, confirmed that the Senate President arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, around 4:00 a.m., where he was received at the Presidential Wing by senators, aides, and supporters.

Addressing journalists, Akpabio dismissed the reports and reassured Nigerians of his readiness to lead the Senate into a more active legislative session.

“We are ready for robust legislative engagements on resumption,” he said.

He also defended the presence of a strong Nigerian delegation at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), conference in Geneva, describing it as vital for strengthening Nigeria’s role in global parliamentary diplomacy.

Akpabio pledged closer collaboration with the executive and judiciary, promising Nigerians “more dividends of democratic governance and effective synergy with the other arms of government.”
