The All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticised Justice Phuong Ngo of the Federal Court of Canada after he upheld a ruling branding both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as terrorist organisations.

The June 17, 2025 judgment also denied asylum to former party member Douglas Egharevba, citing his ties to the APC and PDP.

Canada’s Minister of Public Safety had accused the parties of political violence, undermining democracy, and electoral killings in Nigeria.

APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, dismissed the ruling as “jaundiced” and called the judge an “ignoramus,” arguing the court had no jurisdiction to determine the status of a Nigerian political party.

He alleged the verdict was influenced by “desperate and unpatriotic Nigerians” seeking asylum and insisted the APC remains “a credible democratic organisation” that does not need legitimacy from a “foreign bench” operating under laws without extraterritorial reach.
