The All Progressives Congress (APC), officially launched its campaign for the Rivers State local government elections on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in Port Harcourt.

The flag-off took place at Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic along Rumola Road, setting the stage for the August 30 polls.

At the event, APC State Chairman Tony Okocha urged support for the party’s chairmanship candidates, pledging full backing before, during, and after the elections.

He expressed confidence in the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), to conduct a peaceful, credible, and transparent local government election.

The campaign kickoff follows political shifts in the state, including a Supreme Court ruling that nullified the October 2024 elections and mandated a fresh 90-day notice period for a rerun.

Since then, political realignments and candidate selections have taken place, with several prominent figures from both APC and PDP entering the race.

In recent primaries, many of APC’s chairmanship candidates, including former council chairmen and loyalists of political figures like FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, emerged through consensus and were formally submitted to RSIEC in line with the election timetable.

As the campaign unfolds, focus now turns to voter outreach, candidate visibility, and whether the APC can sustain momentum or face resistance from opposition and internal challengers ahead of Election Day.
