NiMet Forecasts Three Days of Thunderstorms, Rain Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across much of the country from Thursday to Saturday.

In its weather outlook released Wednesday in Abuja, NiMet said northern states including Borno, Kebbi, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, Jigawa, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, and Taraba will see morning thunderstorms on Thursday, with moderate rainfall continuing into the afternoon and evening. Adamawa will also be affected later in the day.

In the South, moderate rains are expected in Oyo, Osun, Edo, Ondo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa on Thursday, with Cross River identified as having a high risk of flooding.

For Friday, morning thunderstorms are expected over Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Taraba, Yobe, Borno, Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa, Sokoto, and Zamfara, with moderate rainfall likely to persist through the day.

NiMet advised against driving in heavy rain and urged flood-prone states to activate emergency response measures immediately.
