The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), have appealed to Nigerians to support efforts to safeguard the nation’s telecommunications infrastructure.
The call comes after a successful mediation that averted a nationwide strike by the Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria (NOGASA), which had threatened diesel supplies to telecom sites.
NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, stressed that telecom facilities are critical to national security and economic stability, warning that vandalism, theft, and operational disruptions can have far-reaching consequences.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to enforcing technical standards and strengthening collaboration among stakeholders to protect these assets.
The telecom sector has also proposed creating a Telecom Infrastructure Protection Trust Fund to finance preventive measures and raise public awareness on the need to safeguard facilities.
The NCC and ONSA urged citizens to view telecom infrastructure as a shared national asset and to play an active role in ensuring its protection, thereby guaranteeing uninterrupted connectivity and supporting Nigeria’s digital economy.
