The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, has hailed the Nigerian Armed Forces as a crucial partner in the country’s record-breaking tax revenue drive.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, to the FIRS headquarters in Abuja, Adedeji credited improved security in oil-producing regions for enabling the Service to surpass its 2025 oil and gas tax target.
He said the peace and stability ensured by the military had allowed oil companies to operate without disruption, boosting production, profits, and tax contributions.
“The Armed Forces are the caretakers of our economic vineyard. Without your protection, businesses cannot thrive, and without thriving businesses, there is nothing to tax,” Adedeji remarked.
The FIRS boss also commended President Bola Tinubu for his support to the military, citing the presidential approval for 1,550 housing units for security personnel as a mark of appreciation for their service.
In response, General Musa praised the FIRS for its revenue mobilization, noting that collections had risen “almost tenfold” since Adedeji assumed office, improving the funding of national defense operations.
He stressed that military success depends on adequate financial resources, which come largely from tax revenue.
Adedeji pledged continued collaboration and promised support for the African Chiefs of Defence Staff Conference, scheduled for August 25–27, 2025, in Abuja.
