President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Thursday, August 14, for a two-nation tour of Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the President will attend the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), in Yokohama, Japan, from August 20 to 22.
Themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa”, the summit will focus on driving Africa’s economic growth, attracting private investment, fostering innovation, and building stable, sustainable societies.
Beyond the plenary sessions, Tinubu will hold bilateral talks and meet with CEOs of Japanese companies already investing in Nigeria.
Launched in 1993 by Japan in collaboration with the United Nations, UNDP, African Union, and World Bank, TICAD is held every three years, alternating between Africa and Japan. The last edition took place in Tunisia in 2022.
From Japan, Tinubu will head to Brasilia, Brazil, for a state visit from August 24 to 25, at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
He is expected to engage in high-level talks with the Brazilian leader and participate in a business forum with Brazilian investors.
Onanuga said the delegation, comprising key ministers and senior government officials, will pursue agreements and memoranda of understanding aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation.
