The Niger State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old student of the College of Health, Kwamba, Suleja, for allegedly faking his own kidnapping and demanding a ₦50 million ransom from his mother.

The suspect, identified as Moses Amarks, was nabbed at Zuba motor park in Abuja after police tracked the phone used to make the ransom call.

Police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the case was reported to the Maje Division on August 4, 2025, when Amarks’ mother received a call from a hidden number claiming her son had been abducted.

Upon interrogation, Amarks confessed to conspiring with his friend, Emmanuel Moses, 22, a former student of the same college, to stage the abduction.

Emmanuel allegedly contacted his brother, Jetro, in Kaduna State, who arranged a hideout for them in Karji village, Sabon-Tasha.

The suspects reportedly stayed in hiding for six days before Amarks returned home after the ransom demand failed.

Police say investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to arrest Jetro.
