Fellows of MTN’s Media Innovation Programme (MIP), Cohort 4 recently visited Huawei Nigeria’s Innovation Centre, Cloud Service Centre, and Network Support Centre in Lagos as part of their industry exposure activities.
At the Innovation Centre, participants explored Huawei’s smart city solutions, advanced power systems, cloud technologies, and enhanced router and antenna designs, key to MTN’s transition from connectivity to comprehensive digital services.
A standout moment was a live demo of an AI-powered video generator, which transformed selfies into 30-second avatar videos within seconds using 5G.
Gavin Geng, Huawei Nigeria’s Deputy Managing Director, Marketing and Solutions, said the company is focused on “bridging the gap between global innovation and local demand” by tailoring technology to Nigeria’s needs.
He highlighted Huawei’s role in the country’s first digital village and local cloud services, emphasizing security and next-generation solutions including 5G, AI, and smart city technology.
The visit also underscored MTN’s readiness to support Nigeria’s growing data demands and the nation’s broader digital ambitions.
Fellows later toured Huawei’s 4,000 sqm Service Centre, which serves sectors including telecoms, finance, transport, power, and public service.
The ISO27001-certified facility features a dedicated DevOps team and staff with advanced security certifications to ensure data protection and operational excellence.
The day concluded with a dinner hosted by MTN Chief Services and Sustainability Officer, Tobechukwu Okigbo, who encouraged participants to maximize the programme and shared insights from his professional journey.
