Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas on Monday appealed to residents to set aside political differences and join him in praying for the speedy recovery of his deputy, Aminu Alkali, who has been unwell for several months.

Governor Kefas described Alkali’s condition as a matter of humanity, urging citizens to show solidarity and support.

He cited both the Bible and the Qur’an, referencing Galatians 6:2 on bearing one another’s burdens and Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:32 on the value of saving lives.

Drawing from his experience as a retired military officer, Kefas stressed the importance of unity and compassion, likening it to the esprit de corps he observed during his service.

He noted that while constitutional provisions exist for replacing an incapacitated deputy, such action would only be considered if absolutely necessary, emphasizing that the immediate focus should be on care and support.

However, Jalingo-based lawyer Bilyaminu Maihanci argued that sympathy should not delay lawful procedures.

He reminded the governor and the State Assembly of their constitutional duties under Sections 189 and 191 of the 1999 Constitution, stressing that governance must continue within the bounds of the law.
