Tinubu Appoints Ayo Omidiran as FCC Chairman, Names New Commissioners Across States

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ayo Hulayat Omidiran as the new Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), succeeding Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, whose tenure faced controversies.

The announcement came in a statement released last night by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

Alongside Omidiran’s appointment, Mr. Mohammed Musa was named Secretary of the commission, while Mr. Kayode Oladele from Ogun State was retained as a commissioner.

Oladele, a former House of Representatives member, was first appointed to the FCC in 2024 and served as Acting Chairman following the expiration of Dr. Dankaka’s term.

President Tinubu also renewed the appointments of three commissioners: Mr. Lawal Ya’u Roni (Jigawa), Mr. Abubakar Atiku Bunu (Kebbi), and Mr. Eludayo Eluyemi (Osun).

In addition, 32 new commissioners were appointed to represent various states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Bauchi: Mr. Babangida Adamu Gwana
Bayelsa: Sir Tonye Okio
Benue: Mr. Aligba Eugene Tarkende
Borno: Modu Mustapha
Cross River: Dr. Stella Odey Ekpo
Delta: Mr. Ederin Lovette Idisi
Ebonyi: Nwokpor Vincent Nduka
Edo: Chief Victor Sabor Edoror
Ekiti: Sola Fokanle
Enugu: Mr. Peter Eze
Gombe: Mr. Ibrahim Baba Mairiga
Imo: Jerry Alagbaoso
Kaduna: Mrs. Ruth Jumai Ango
Kano: Mr. Muhammad Awwal Nayya
Katsina: Anas Isah
Kogi: Mr. Bello Idris Eneye
Kwara: Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi
Niger: Alhaji Isah Jibrin

In related appointments, Ms. Abiola, a strategic communication and government relations expert and former Senior Special Assistant to the President, was named to an unspecified role.

Additionally, Nasir Bala Aminu Ja’oji was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Citizenship and Leadership.

Ja’oji, known for his advocacy on women and youth empowerment, previously served as Special Adviser on Mobilisation to the Governor of Kano State.
